New LMC Program

Hey BA Readers!
Looking for your next great read? Ready to share your opinion and help other students discover their next favorite book? Then it’s time to join Book Buzz @ BA!
Book Buzz @ BA is our monthly book review program designed to celebrate reading, spotlight great books in our school library, and help BA students find stories worth talking about!
Here’s how it works:
Pick a Book: Choose a fiction OR non-fiction book from the BA Library that catches your interest.
Read & Review: Write a short review (150–250 words) sharing your thoughts. What did you love? What surprised you? Would you recommend it to a friend?
Spread the Buzz: Share your review and help other students discover their next great read!
Why participate?
  • Share your voice and your opinions.
  • Help your classmates find books they’ll love.
  • Discover new authors, genres, and stories.
  • Celebrate reading and be part of the BA book community!
Whether you’re into fantasy, horror, romance, mystery, graphic novels, or nonfiction, there’s a book waiting for you!
One book. One review. A whole lot of buzz!
Ready to get started? Visit the BA Library, choose your next read, and join the buzz!
Happy reading,
Mrs. Dineen & Mrs. Owens

The students in ECE ENGL 3082 Writing Center practicum submitted a proposal and were selected to present at UConn’s annual Writing Center Conference for Secondary Schools on 10/16.  The tutors spent the day participating in the conference, attending various conference presentations, and networking with other high school writing center tutors from across New England. Their 1-hour presentation and roundtable discussion centered on student leadership and authentic student voice, allowing our tutors to share their work surrounding high school peer tutoring and college essay support in a presentation entitled, “Demystifying the Narrative: How High School Tutors Subvert College Essay Anxiety.” Here is an overview of the presentation:

Part 1: Showcase & Presentation
Tutor Training Model: Outlined how our ECE practicum course prepares high school juniors and seniors to act as collaborative peer consultants rather than evaluators or line-editors with a focus on learning to tutor college essays.
Two-Tiered Workshop Series: Presented the structure and outcomes of our peer-led college essay workshops showing how early brainstorm sessions for juniors and drafting/revision workshops for seniors demystify high-stakes application writing.

Part 2: Roundtable Discussion
Facilitated an engaging discussion with high school writing center tutors, secondary educators, and writing center directors on navigating high-stakes personal narratives.
Explored practical strategies for helping high school writers find meaningful, authentic topics without feeling pressured to overshare or conform to formulaic admissions expectations.

Seeking Veterans

The Bacon Academy Student Council invites you to participate in our Veterans Day Panel on Thursday, November 5th, from 7:30–9:00 a.m.

We are looking for parents and grandparents who are military veterans or currently serving members of the United States Armed Forces who would be willing to share their experiences with our junior and senior classes during a question-and-answer session. Your stories and perspectives would provide our students with a meaningful and memorable learning experience. If you are a veteran or currently serving member and would be interested in participating, we would be honored to have you join us. Please contact Thomas Frickman at tfric210@colchesterct.org to express your interest.

Thank you for your service and for considering this opportunity to share your experiences with our students.

With gratitude,

Thomas Frickman and the Bacon Academy Student Council
