Greenwich — Waterford High School's Nora Christensen finished second in the girls' foil division on Sunday at the Burton E. Moore Connecticut High School state fencing championships at Greenwich High School.

Christensen, the No. 7 seed, won back-to-back matches by a score of 15-14, beating No. 2 Samantha Lavine of Guilford in the quarterfinals and No. 11 Natalia Pepe of Cheshire in the semifinals, to reach the championship match. Guilford's Sophie Huang defeated Christensen in the final, 15-4.

Waterford's Priya Pantha was sixth in the division and Norwich Free Academy's Talia Gonzalez seventh.

Bacon Academy's Lily Shuman was third in girls' epee, reaching the semifinals before falling to Coco Yanagida of Greenwich. East Lyme's Avneeta Basu was fifth, St. Bernard's Nancy Zhou seventh and NFA's Zobaida Zakaria ninth. 

Old Lyme's Cameron Russell tied for third in the boys' epee championship. Bacon's Oliver Melmed was fifth, Calvin Brassard of the Marine Science Magnet School and Henry Brown of NFA were tied for sixth and Ledyard's Ben Wolford was eighth. Russell, the 11th seed, reached the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Isaiah Parker of Greenwich, 15-5.

Bacon's Cameron Cruz was ninth in boys' foil and East Lyme's Lucas Scism 10th.
