JJIS Update 12.7.2025
December 7, 2025
Dear Students, Staff and Families:
We are pleased to confirm that JJIS is clear to resume normal operations tomorrow, Monday, December 8.
Based on the thorough electrical inspections, testing, and drying procedures conducted over the weekend, all systems have been deemed safe and stable for the full return of students and staff.
Summary of Events and Response
On Friday evening we had a sprinkler pipe burst in an electrical room at JJIS. When water hit the electrical equipment we had a combustible event which was quickly extinguished by the same sprinkler system. The working hypothesis was that the pipe, which is above the ceiling, froze due to cold temperatures on Thursday night and when it thawed, it cracked.
The main impact of this event was water entering the electrical switchgear that powers the school building. We are grateful for the combined efforts of Andrew Barillari and our facilities team along with our electrical contractor who worked continuously through the weekend to ensure the safety of our building. This comprehensive effort included:
Drying and Monitoring: Immediate deployment of dehumidifiers and fans, followed by continuous thermal imaging scans to monitor temperatures and ensure no electrical degradation was occurring.
Cleaning: JJIS custodial team members Josh Fargo and Tyler Couture worked Friday night, Saturday and Sunday removing sprinkler water from the cafeteria and band rooms and then did extensive cleaning of those spaces and public areas impacted by this event.
Safety Confirmation: Repeated, full building load tests were performed on Saturday and Sunday (operating all HVAC, lighting, and kitchen equipment at 100%). All equipment maintained normal operating temperatures and electrical performance under the heaviest load.
Final Approval: The Fire Marshal was informed of all testing activities and confirmed that no additional fire safety measures were required. The electrical equipment is now visibly dry and performing safely.
In closing, I would also like to thank Principal Stacy Ewings and Associate Principal Melissa Cyr for the time and effort that they dedicated to developing contingency plans for this week. Fortunately they aren’t needed, especially since tomorrow is day number 67!
Sincerely,
Daniel Sullivan
