Bacon Academy Updates for the Week of August 22nd

Accepted, Connected and Ready to Learn

August 22, 2025

A Message From New Assistant Principal, Jen Martin

I am grateful and excited to be able to join the Bacon family and work more closely to support this community! Although, I loved my time working at both WJJMS and here at Bacon the past few years, it feels like I’m coming home to my high school roots. I started my teaching career at Bristol Central High School and though I went on to work in different settings at different grade levels, the bulk of my career has been at the high school level. There is nothing like the energy of high school and I’m happy to be back! My experience as a collegiate soccer coach, special education teacher, and behavior analyst have created my passion for supporting teachers to create environments that develop energized, independent, capable students into engaged community members both inside and outside of school. I truly can’t overstate how appreciative I am that I get to join you in this work!

School Counselor Update

We are excited to share that we have hired a new school counselor, Miss Dragon, who will begin on Monday, 8/25/25.

Students with last names G-N will now be assigned to Miss Dragon.

Both of our other school counselors will be supporting this transition as we welcome her to Bacon Academy. Any immediate concerns or issues can be emailed to Mrs. Zaugg (azaugg@colchesterct.org) and Mr. Garvey (dgarvey@colchesterct.org) as we bring Miss Dragon onboard.

We thank you in advance for your support and understanding during this transition period. Please feel free to contact the School Counseling Office with any concerns.

Sincerely,
BA School Counseling

First Day!

Starting a new school year can bring a lot of nerves but at BA, we flip the script. Instead of stress and anxiety, First Day is all about fun, excitement, and Bobcat spirit. This tradition sets the tone for the year, bringing our students together and reminding everyone that at BA, the first day of school isn’t something to fear,it’s something to celebrate.
Our first day of school is coming up on Thursday, August 28th!  We will run a modified 8 block schedule so students can meet all their teachers, then break for lunch before gathering for a Pep Rally and our traditional First Day activities.  Students who wish to participate in the water slides should bring a towel, sunblock and appropriate clothing for the activity.  All students will receive a First Day shirt early in the day to show our school spirit! Students who plan to visit the food trucks are suggested to bring for $15 for snacks.  Friday August 29th will be a full A day schedule, but in the unfortunate event of inclement weather we will swap the Thursday and Friday schedules.  Any changes will be announced via ParentSquare and student email.

*New Cell Phone Policy*

New for this year:  All classrooms are being outfitted with a cell phone storage device, into which all students will place their phones upon entering the classroom.  Many teachers have implemented this practice in the last few years and we are making this consistent across the building to support learning.  Students always have access to chromebooks during instructional time, and as always parents are welcome to reach out to the main office for urgent needs during school hours.
