BACON PARENT FORUM WITH PRINCIPAL BEGUE
Please join us for the next Bacon Parent Forum: April 17th from 6pm-7:30pm in the Bacon Academy Library! No commitment necessary. Please email Marycia Malloy at [email protected] with any questions or concerns
Excessive early dismissals are disruptive to a child’s education, detracts the office staff’s attention from necessary daily procedures that support student accountability and daily routines, and should only be requested in emergency or prior planned instances. Please adhere to the following:
-
For accountability and liability reasons, we can only release students if we have written authorization from a parent/guardian in the main office. Written authorization must be in the form of a handwritten note to the Attendance Secretary, pursuant to Board of Education Policy 5000R, revised May 8, 2018. Written notes should be submitted to the main office as soon as possible, preferably prior to the start of the school day (7:35). Phone calls or emails for early dismissal will not be accepted, we must have permission in writing from a parent/guardian. The student must sign out in the main office before leaving.
-
If a senior does not have senior privileges, please do not write him/her early dismissal notes. Our hope is that s/he will use study hall time to improve grades and become eligible for privileges the next quarter.
-
Please limit the need for early dismissals to genuine emergencies and prior planned appointments that could not be scheduled outside of the school day.
SENIOR PROM
Senior prom tickets will be on sale during the week of April 17-21. Tickets are $90 each. Any obligations must be cleared with the main office first. Any guest who is not a student from BA must have a signed permission slip before their ticket can be purchased. You can get the slips in the main office, or see Mrs. Blain in room 3114.
JUNIOR PROM
Junior prom tickets will be on sale during the week of April 17-21, before school only, in front of the LMC. Tickets are $100 each. All class dues must be paid in full before or at the time of purchase, and any obligations must be cleared with the main office first. Any guest who is not a student from BA must have a signed permission slip before their ticket can be purchased. You can get the slips in the main office, or see Mrs. Burroughs in room 3160.
NGSS TESTING
The week of April 17th-21st all juniors will be taking the NGSS state assessment. Most juniors will be taking the test in or during a science class. For those juniors not currently enrolled in a science class, there is a practice test students are encouraged to try. This practice familiarizes students with the format of the test as well as the types of questions they may encounter on the test. Directions and a video are provided for students to access. Any questions regarding the assessment can be directed to Mrs Levasseur.

Students are strongly encouraged to review the Program of Studies and graduation requirements prior to selecting their courses for the 2023-2024 school year.
A master schedule is created based on students' course requests; thus, it is expected that students request courses that they intend to take. During the add/drop period occurring prior to the beginning of the school year, requested schedule changes will only be permitted in necessary situations, including:
-
A need to meet graduation requirements for the 2023-2024 school year,
-
Placement in an elective that the student did not request,
-
Student's desire to replace a scheduled study hall with an additional class (when available),
-
Seniors electing to drop classes that exceed graduation requirements (beyond the 6.5 credit minimum), and
-
The addition of a class in order to fill an unscheduled period in the student's schedule.
Add/drop requests to change student-selected electives, change class periods, or change teachers will NOT be considered. Thank you for dedicating your time and attention to thoughtfully choosing courses for the upcoming school year.

ASVAB - TUESDAY, APRIL 25, 2023
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program (CEP) is a unique opportunity for students in grades 10-12 to explore all of their career and post-secondary options so they can make a plan that works for them. This assessment is NOT just for those students interested in the military. The ASVAB CEP helps students identify potentially satisfying career paths by exploring their skills, personality, and personal work values. Participants in the ASVAB CEP will discover all of the ways to enter their chosen career field and develop effective strategies to achieve their goals. The program explores all post-secondary options including 4-year college, 2-year college, trade school, apprenticeships, military service, and entering straight into the workforce. Bacon Academy will be offering the ASVAB to students on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 7:45 a.m. The test will take approximately 90 minutes to complete, and a follow-up Post-Test Interpretation Workshop will be scheduled to review students’ results. The ASVAB is completely FREE for students to take, but students must sign up in advance. Please note that students’ results are not shared without students’/parents’ consent to do so. Please contact Ashley Zaugg via email at [email protected] with questions or to sign up.

PROJECT GRAD
Project Grad is always looking for volunteers. See our Newsletter for April events.
ORDER YOUR SAPLING TODAY!
This year, students from Bacon AP Environmental Science Class are partnering with the nonprofit Tree-Plenish to help make their community more sustainable. They plan to plant 212 saplings on April 22, 2023 to offset their school’s energy consumption from the past academic year.
Residents of the community are able to help support the event starting now! They can order a sapling to be planted in their yard or sign up to volunteer to plant saplings on the day of the event. Saplings are $5 and residents can choose between Eastern Redbud, Flowering Dogwood, and Red Maple saplings. The more residents that request saplings, the faster the students are able to reach their goal. If residents are unable to order a sapling or volunteer their time, they can also make a monetary contribution on the Tree-Plenish website to help support future tree-planting events. Any business or individual who wishes to donate to the cause without purchasing a sapling, offsets the cost of the saplings for others.
For more information on volunteering , or to order sapling please visit the website for the event : http://tpevents.org/school/3047 or contact Jill Levasseur at [email protected].
